FOUR NOBLE TRUTHS
1. The Noble Truth of Suffering (Unsatisfactoriness)
2. The Noble Truth of Cause (Origin) of Suffering
3. The Noble Truth of the Cessation (Cure) of Suffering
4. The Noble Truth of the Way Leading to the Cessation (Cure) of Suffering
NOBLE EIGHTFOLD PATH
1. Right Understanding
Complete and perfect knowledge of the Four Noble Truths.
2. Right Thoughts
Thoughts free from (a) lust; (b) greed; (c) attachment; (d) ill-will; (e) hatred; (f) cruelty; (g) unkindness; and (h) revenge.
3. Right Speech
Refrain from (a) falsehood; (b) slander; (c) harsh words; (d) gossips; (e) idle talk; and (f) frivolous speech.
4. Right Action
Abstain from (a) killing; (b) stealing; and (d) improper sexual relations.
5. Right Livelihood
Abstain from trading in (a) arms; (b) human beings (slavery, prostitution, etc.); (c) living beings; (d) flesh (breeding animals for slaughter); (e) intoxicants; and (f) poisons.
6. Right Effort
To (a) discard evil which already exists; (b) avoid evil not yet existing; (c) develop good not yet existing; and (d) to promote and preserve the good already developed.
7. Right Mindfulness
Mindfulness with regard to (a) body; (b) feelings; (c) mental formations; and (d) ideas, thoughts, conceptions and things.
8. Right Concentration (Meditation)
One-pointedness of mind.
FIVE PRECEPTS
1. To abstain from harming living beings.
2. To abstain from taking what is not given.
3. To abstain from unchaste conduct.
4. To abstain from false speech.
5. To abstain from intoxicating drinks and drugs.
